International Travel News (ITN) is a monthly publication with travel stories and tips that are largely contributed by readers. It published 1976-2022 and is returning to digital publication in 2026 and print publication in 2027.
By submitting content, the author(s) acknowledge that ITN has complete, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to edit, adapt, reproduce, distribute, display, and otherwise use the contribution, in whole or in part, in any current or future media or format.
ITN does not accept content about destinations in the United States or its territories (American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, etc.).
HOW TO SUBMIT
We welcome submissions about recent international travel to editor@intltravelnews.com. Although submissions via email are strongly preferred, you may also write to ITN at 209 Bruce Park Avenue, Greenwich, CT 06830. All materials submitted become the property of ITN.
THIS IS HOW READERS CAN CONTRIBUTE:
Feature Articles
Generally 1,000-2,000 words, feature articles discuss a trip and must include at least two high resolution digital photos. Features must be written in the first-person (“I booked this,” “We enjoyed that”). Describe your experiences, observations, opinions, and special encounters. Avoid transcribing your itinerary. Include trip dates (preferably within the last 18 months), approximate prices of travel and services, and the website address of travel firms and establishments mentioned. If a location does not have URL, state that and include another form of contact such as a phone number and/or address. The idea is if readers are inspired by what you’ve written and want to duplicate your trip, they will have most of the information they’ll need from your story.
Include the name of the writer and photographer; your email address and phone number (which will not be published) in case the editors need to reach you for fact checking, and identify your town and state.
With your email, attach each picture as a jpg (do not embed it in the body of the email). If a photo file size is at least 1 MB, then it's usually large enough to accompany a print feature article.
If there is a backlog of articles already scheduled on a similar destination, your article might not be printed for many months. Articles not selected to be Feature Articles may be considered for publication, in part, in other sections of the magazine. If your trip was provided for free or at a discount, please disclose this and let ITN know who hosted you and to what extent.
Traveler's Intercom
Running approximately 300-700 words, the items in the Traveler’s Intercom section are tips and highlights from recent international trips. These include appraisals of tours, cruises, airlines, hotels, tour guides, and destinations as well as travel hiccups that result in advice for fellow travelers. Digital photos of at least 500 KB sent as attachments are welcome for publication consideration.
This section informs readers about ways to save money on a trip as well as which places to be sure to see or avoid; the customs one should be aware of in different cultures; appropriate dress; what to pack or leave at home; great gift items found; the best times of year to visit; the best modes of transportation; dates of bank holidays or special festivals; warnings or tips on travel in particular areas, and basically anything that will help someone have the most successful trip.
Funniest Thing
Tell us about the funniest thing that happened to you while traveling outside the US. These can be any length but usually run about 250 words.
Letters to the Editor
ITN welcomes letters to the editor addressing content from previous issues or other topics.
Calling All Readers
Do you have a travel question you’d like other readers to answer? Please email your question (such as "Which cruise line is good for solo female travelers?") to editor@intltravelnews.com for the opportunity to have the question published and answers from readers printed in a future edition.
NOTES ON CONTENT
While the history and details about a destination are often important and interesting, what won’t be found in guidebooks are YOUR tips, discoveries, and experiences; what you have found worthy or unworthy of a visit (and why), and your candid appraisals of services and companies.
Do not include phrasing from guidebooks, websites, brochures, or other sources in the content you submit as previously published content is copyrighted.
Be frank in your assessments. If a hotel or tour was unpleasant, say so and explain why. If good, ditto. Be as specific as you can, and include documentation, if possible. (When ITN receives a letter of complaint about a travel firm, information is gathered and then a copy of the letter, along with any additional answers, is sent to the company to give them an opportunity to provide a response. If ITN then decides to print the subscriber's letter, it will be followed by the company's response, if one was provided.)
When writing about hotels, restaurants, tours, cruises, auto rentals, guide services, etc., quote prices, even if they're just approximate or a range. Do not merely state that the price was “moderate” or “inexpensive.”

NOTES ON PHOTOS
If you are using an aol.com email address, pictures that you email will be automatically compressed for faster transmission. You'll need to send pictures to ITN from a different email account.
If you are sending digital photos to ITN from an iPhone or iPad, you must choose “Original size” or “Full size” when emailing; otherwise, the images will be automatically sent at low resolution.
Only pictures that you’ve taken yourself or those for which you have permission from the photographer to print should be submitted. Do not pull other photographers' pictures from online sources.
Always include photo captions, preferably as complete sentences. For each photo, tell us what we are looking at, approximately where the picture was taken and who shot the picture.
If including multiple photos, captions must be corroborated with the photos. One way is to number or label each caption to correspond with its digital photo-file number or label.
PAYMENT
There is no cash payment for readers’ submitted content. However, for each printed Feature Article, the author will receive a one-year ITN subscription. Articles submitted as Features may be condensed and used in other sections of the magazine (Travelers’ Intercom, etc.) without compensation. Only the authors of printed Feature Articles receive a complimentary subscription.
